Hello, my name is Karen,
and I'm a
hexie-holic.
Patron Saint of Hexies |
Welcome to KaHolly if you are a new visitor,
and thank you for joining me
I've never participated in a blog hop before,
so this is kind of special for me.
I am a little intimidated, however.
Hexies are my "to go" project.
There are three things I never leave the house without -
There are three things I never leave the house without -
my camera, my binoculars and
my hexie to-go box -
my hexie to-go box -
- even just the 30 minute ride to, then from, the grocery store,
my little hands are busy making...
...hexies.
(And I look up every few minutes to make sure I don't miss any birds!)
(And I look up every few minutes to make sure I don't miss any birds!)
You notice I said, "..a box".
It's just a recycled plastic food container.
Nothing fancy.
But that said, some of my hexie friends have
custom-made
custom-made
Hexie To-Go Bags,
inspired by a PDF pattern that I purchased from StudioCherie, and
combined with this great tutorial for a Hexagon Needle Wallet
that I attached to the inside with a short strap.
that I attached to the inside with a short strap.
(Funny how we often make for others,
and not for ourselves!)
I recently needed to make some quick, easy, and fun prizes
for the little sewing group I belong to.
I headed straight to my hexie-to-go-box
and whipped up several of these.
I simply cut a square of coordinating felt,
used an edging stich to attach the hexie flower,
cut away the excess felt,
then added a little more simple stitching.
Some I bundled up as sets, tied with a pretty ribbon.
Some I coupled with complimentary mugs.
Here are a few other hexie projects I've made:
What better way to showcase my favorite bird fabric
than with twisted hexie coasters?!

Many years ago,
I made this table topper for a little round marble table.
(I never actually finshed it.)
The use of hexies extends beyond
the sewing room.
I make cards with some of my nature photos
and, influenced by this hop,
thought I'd give the hexie shape a try.

I was rather pleased with the results.
Well,

Your the queen of hexies. Love your projects!
If I had to pick a favorite pattern, I'd say at the moment - How to Make Luggage tags. I'm going early next month to be grandma for 3 weeks. The normal sitter (other grandpa) is having surgery. So the backup has been summoned. It's only because of timing I'd pick that project. They are all great. I need a hexie bag. I'll be cutting as many hexies as I can before I go so that I don't have to take a bunch of fabric. I'll be busy with the 2 year old all day, but after the boys go to bed, I'll have a little time and great for the airport. I've started a queen size GFG of 1" finished hexies.
Let me say that I am in awe of your projects. They are phenomenal. I enjoyed reading your post and can tell your enthusiasm for them. Thanks for the all the great information and links. Thanks for participating and inspiring us all to do more with hexies.

Well, I certainly had to laugh at myself and the length of time it took me to figure out what "hexie" meant.
You are very creative with hexagons, but I don't quite know how you can...oh, you're not driving to the grocery store.
Well, that's a relief. I pictured you sewing with your hands on the wheel, and picking up your binoculars every few minutes. Somehow.
Whew! I'm not very bright when it comes to these things. But you have certainly made some wonderful items, and I enjoyed seeing photos of them.
K
I'll try to make this short. I feel like I need to call and talk to you. So many ideas! I saved you under my favorites to come back. I can't take it all in with one look/see. I love the hexie bags. As for Cherie, so I'm supposed to choose ONE? Well, one would be the soul blossoms kindle fire cover. And one would be the emery filled pin cushion. And one would be...get my drift????? Loved your post. It has me all fired up to go home from work (yes I'm on the internet at work) and get started on some new projects. I'm almost finished with one of my projects at home and really needed one more to start so I won't finish that one!!!! Thank you so much for sharing.
