Dawn at Sweet as Cinnamon has such imagination!
She wants to know how we came to name our blogs!!
A few years ago, I was wintering in Maine
with my sister, The Fern Lady.
A grad student, a mom and wife, and employed part-time, she was a very busy girl. I was learning the names of plants and making cards from the pictures she had taken over the years, and driving her crazy! So, she decided to keep me busy and out of her hair. She had heard about Etsy from a friend who makes the most amazing pottery and came to the conclusion that I should open a little shop and sell my cards. We labored for hours, trying to come up with a name.
Finally, she popped up with the fact that growing up and being the younger sibling, every time our mom addressed her, she'd always start with my name, so she would hear "K-Holly". It was perfect, and we named the Etsy shop KaHolly.
Then came the blog to promote the store!
Sadly, the Etsy store went on permanent vacation at the end of the winter months,
never to open again, and
KaHolly morphed into a nature blog.
And you know what? Her little scheme didn't work. I bugged her twice as much because she was then the photographer as well as the botanist!!
And she had all the computer smarts!
How did YOUR blog get it's name? Dawn is giving away some beautiful fabric to one lucky winner that links up to her post. {If you are a nature blogger and you want to play, and you win,
you can send the fabric to ME!!:)}

So that's how Kaholly began.
Saint Cuby is our village church and the part of the village I live in is Cuby hence thecubypoet. Not a nature blog but??!
cute story!
my blog is pretty obvious. i named our place Run*A*Round Ranch when we bought it - partly due to the 9-side roundish house, and mostly because we had had such a runaround trying to buy it (someone else's contract was accepted before ours and they would NOT let it go, even after not being able to secure financing). anyway, since most of my blog posts are from home, it made sense. but years before, i used to send emails to my friends and workmates detailing my long commute into Dallas, and I'd title them "The Run*A*Round Ranch Roadkill Report" and I'd list off all the roadkill i'd see on the way in. :)
My father used to start calling seven other names previous to calling the one he had in view....
Would have made my blogname, the way you found it,loinloanpejastejeanneke.....
How great fun!
Let's see, I had just discovered Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran's non-traditional style of quilting and I loved the ideas they had about quilting in general, namely, not to worry about perfect piecing. I had found a quote saying artists didn't worry about colouring outside the lines, which I loved and wanted to incorporate that into my blog name.
Love the story about how you got to the name of your blog. But I really had a laugh with your last sentence (((o:
The name to my blog isn't very original. I called it Quilting a Stitchery Diary, because I was all into Vampire's Diary with Laura. I found that quite funny, but I don't think anyone understood ...
KaHolly, how cute! Sorry your little store didn't take off. My first blog got its name from the place that I lived at the time, Sycamore Canyon. My new blog got its name from what I called myself, Kathiesbirds. It's now Kathie's Birds and not tied to any particular place since I seem to keep moving around!
Isn't nature great? I love God's creation. Most of my photos are nature ones.
Really enjoyed reading your blog and how you became KaHolly. What fun.
Thank you for your kind comments on my blog. It is so fun getting to learn about others and creating new friendships.
My Blog name, Linda Letters, is just what I came up with when I was in a hurry to get the first blog posted before leaving on a trip. It works.
Well Karen, thats how your blog got it's name. And it really does stand out. Shame about the shop though. But pleased you set up your blog. John
Fun to know. Loft Creations also started as an etsy store.
Hi Karen ..what a cute idea...
I was at my daughters for a visit, and she was helping me set up my blog....We tried a couple of names, but nothing sounded right and I hadn't particually figured out my blogging niche either!
My 8 year old grandson was trying to get my attention " of course" and after hearing Grammie over and over I thought since I don't know where I was going with this blogging thing....It's going to be Grammie's Rambling ! That's my story!!
Love hearing about the beginnings of your blog!
Great story. My dad just plain couldn't remember my name so he'd just call me by one of my sisters' names.
I learned something new about you today. Sorry your store didn't go but I am glad you continued to blog.
I plan to do a post on my blog name but it is pretty understandable how I came to name my blog.
My mother did that too but I just couldn't name my blog Marbra or Bargret
Great story about your blog name! It is fun to hear about you and your sister. Sorry your etsy shop closed, but so glad you continued with blogging or I wouldn't have found such a great friend. Nola
Lovely story.... we both seemed to be planning 'business' in the beginning... I can just hear a little voice saying 'K Holly.... great reason for a name....
did you go back and buy one of the quilts you showed us in the last post??

ROFL - I think this is the best one yet! My mum and aunt were J-Pat and P-Jane, my boys are J-Sam and S-John. I think everyone can relate to this!
What a cute story and name! There were 4 of us kids about the same age when we were little and my mom always did that......Con..Den..Jim..Scott. It was always funny especially since I was the only girl!
Great story about your name. Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog and hearing about my blog name :-)
A brilliant story, I think I'll change my named, uhm, let me think......
I agree with everyone...great story..
Thanks for stopping by my blog again, I can't email you as you are a no-reply. Connie
How cute...So, that's what KaHolly is about. :-)
Mine is pretty easy to figure out.
I wanted the website, the Etsy shop, and the blog to relate, but be slightly different.

I was thinking we got your settings fixed, but I wanted to let you know that the comment you just left on my blog showed your settings are still as a no reply blogger. So sorry to leave a message this way, but I couldn't email you.
Let me know if you need help with your settings.

I agree, cute story. As my blog evolved from general interest to a nature them I changed the name to match the subject. Unfortunately, I was not able to change the URL to match the name.
...that's a cute story! I wondered where your name came from the first time I saw it! :-)
I love your name! :) It's a great story.
My blog name came from the fact that I am a collector of all things strawberry. I nicknamed my sewing space The Strawberry Patch years ago, for obvious reasons, and since my computer is contained within the confines of the Studio the name was a clear path: "From The Strawberry Patch". Not nearly as creative as yours.
What an interesting story, though I'm sorry the shop didn't stay open. As for my "Continuous Tourist" blog, the name came about when we were on a trip with friends and I criticized one of them for "acting like a tourist." Erika then said that this particular friend acts like a tourist even when she's at home, at which point I said that made her "a continuous tourist," at which point someone said that would be a good blog name...and the rest is now a very, very, very minor footnote in history.
