Here's a little girl
after my own heart!
This 5 year old granddaughter of a quilty, non-blogging friend of mine
"could barely reach the pedal".
My friend writes,
"(she) wanted to learn how to sew, so she spent 3 nights with us last week. She made an art apron with slots for markers, glue, scissors, tape, etc. I drew lines and she did a lot of the sewing. She was a quick study----needle down, pressure foot down, press locking stitch button, and step on the peddle. I thought she'd lose interest after awhile, but she stuck with it. Even ironed the seams as we sewed. I did the gathering and the waistband for her. Then she wanted to make one for her best buddy, Gavin, when he comes over to play school with her. We made his like a Home Depot tool belt with no gathering. She was so excited."
Proudly modeling the finished product!
She captured my heart a few years ago
with this picture.
My, how she's grown.
What's not to love?
Enjoy your day!

What a grand project for a first one! I bet she sticks with sewing--I learned how to sew watching my older sister, then she gave up sewing and I earned a living sewing (in my upholstery biz) for over 30 yrs!!! So you never know what you are sparking when you are around a young person.
That's is so adorable. She's got talent. I love the little gathered skirt.
so sweet!
Great sewing! It is good to see young ones getting keen about sewing!
Love to see the little ones at the machine. Hope she continues with the interest. She found the best teacher!
How very sweet! A junior crafter well on her way to becoming a master crafter. :)
Both of those photos are so great! I am glad to see a new generation of sewists.
How special , it is wonderful to see someone so young wanting to learn to sew and she did an amazing job on her art apron!!
Alrighty a young one that is getting hooked on sewing early. What a cute apron!
Maybe the desire to sew is born in.
So darned cool! It would be so great to have a little girl around like that. One who's so interested isn't usually found. I'm glad you know her!
she is very sweet and I am impressed with her coordiantion to sew at her age...

Hi Karen...She is a real cutie, and what an accomplished feeling to have made it herself!!
I was sewing too at about that age , making doll clothes was my favorite thing until I got old enough to make my own clothes!! : )
Great post!!

What a sweetie! Love to see the quilting and sewing tradition passed along!
How wonderful to pass on something you love doing to a child who wants to learn.
Sew nice to see the young one enjoying sewing. Her apron looks fabulous and how good to be thinking of her little friend.
Oh you are so right - what's not to love??? She's adorable :) That's a pretty intense project for a first one, and she did an amazing job. Good for you taking on the task of teaching her and inspiring that life-long love of sewing in her. Most of us would not be quilters today if someone hadn't sat down with us as little girls and took the time to teach us how to love sewing! This post just made me smile - BIG SMILES!!!!
Now that is a photo worthy of a warm and fuzzy feeling. She's adorable and obviously a crafter at heart, even so young. Great job!!!
Wow-that's outstanding!! That's so neat that she stuck with it and finished her apron. That's a great photo of her modeling it :-)
She is creative, love that.
What an adorable child! So nice that she is already creating with fabric! That apron is so cute!
Sewing/quilting is a wonderful tradition to pass along, how cool she was interested !
I love this! She is so focused! How fun that she is so excited to learn to sew. The apron turned out lovely. The pictures of her remind me of my grandsons wanting to sew and also all of them playing in the leaves. Thanks for sharing and reminding us to enjoy those simple, yet precious moments. Nola
She has grown. I have a picture of my daughter playing in the leaves like that when she was little.
Your little friend did a great job.
Hello Karen, I enjoyed your post, such a little cutie. Hugs, O'faigh
