I have completed my second Dog Gone Cute quilt!
Measuring in at 46" x 54",
it will make a good lap quilt.
A little glimpse of the backing,
and the binding.
The third flimsy will travel to North Texas with me tomorrow
and will be FMQ'd on my friend's machine.
I grew a little weary of straight line quilting with a generic walking foot
on a teeny weeny little and old portable Singer,
although it's done me well!
It's already layered, and the binding is prepped and ready!
There's a lot of negative space,
but I'll keep the quilting pretty simple.
I'm going to try a binding with a flange on this last one.
I can't wait to present all these dog gone goodies
to the pet rescue later this month!
I hope they do well at auction.
In the meantime,
I've also been preparing for the blog hop!
That quilt will be quilted at my friend's, too,
and like the other,
is all prepped and ready to go.
My day is February 8!
Here's the line up for the whole week!

Lastly, I want to share a bird picture with you!
I know, I know! It's been a while!
This is a pair of Crested Caracaras.
I've been trying to get a decent picture
of them for years,
but they are always either too far away,
or fly off just as I'm ready to click.
In the US, they are only found in
Arizona, Texas, and Florida.
Described as a tropical falcon version of the vulture,
they like the open country.
They are about 20" long,
with a wingspan of almost 50".
Oops, I almost forgot!
Thanks to Anja

Lovely doggie quilts, hope they do well at the auction. Interesting birds too, I've never heard of that one.
That quilt is really cute. Hope it raises funds at the auction. Someone will surely love it. Looking forward to the hop next week - tons of people participating so that will be a fun one to browse. Have a wonderful weekend Karen.
Holy Smokes that is a huge wingspan. Nearly prehistoric. :o) Those dog quilts are going to make a lot of money for the shelter. How lucky they are to have someone as giving as you.
Lovely doggies! Interesting birds too. I have ever heard of them before.
Another lovely quilt... I do like how you are making them different from each other... Interesting looking birds ...

Those birds are beautiful - great pictures! Your quilts are most certainly doggone-cute. You really keep on track with your sewing. Have fun quilting on your friend's machine - how nice is that? :)
Oh, it's puppy love!!
Love seeing these doggy quilts coming together. So cute, Karen! Thank you for all your hard work on each of them. And the Crested Caracaras bird is sure neat! Big! I'll have to keep an eye open for one. Thanks for sharing your pictures.
Your “Doggone Cute” quilts are sure to make the pet rescue lots of moolah. WOW! Your birds photo and information is very impressive and I have never seen this species before. Safe Travels and Happy Quilting...<3
Lovely finish on your dog quilt and i do like the backing you chose. Front and back are adorable. This is a very special donation quilt.
Great photos of the birds. I was not familiar with them so thanks for the info you provided.
Love your pic of the caracaras! I've only seen one in person, one time, and it was impressive. I wonder if the two you captured are a mating pair? Their body language reminds me of an old married couple :)
I'm sure your doggie quilts will be much appreciated and quickly bid up at the auction!
The dog quilt is so cute.
Such a sweet gift for the auction! I hope it goes great! Sounds like you have been quite productive :)
Hi Karen the doggie quilt is fantastic xx
This has been a long range project, and I am sure you are ready to wrap it all up. What a gift you are giving!
Caracaras? I have never heard of or seen these birds before, and how fabulous it must have been to snap photos! Thank you for widening my world once more.
Wow Karen what a darling quilt there! I love those blocks and they allow for such personality to be created with colours & combo's... love it!
Love those quilts. I really need to make one because the pattern reminds me so much of my MinPin..Harley. How great that you got to capture the birds on camera! I have never heard of them but they are so pretty.
xx, Carol
The doggie quilt turned out great! Perfect backing and binding. Love it! Have fun with your friends and see you on the hop tomorrow. Can't wait! hugs
Hm - I lived in TX and never heard of those birds! They're lovely! As is your darling doggy quilt - I'm sure they'll do very well at the auction, yay!!
Lovely quilt Karen, you used the most perfect fabrics and I especially love the binding. Now to check out your hop post.
That's a large wingspan on those birds - wow! Awesome doggy quilt - the second from the top pupper in the top picture, reminds me of my neighbour's dog Suzy :) I hope you had a safe trip to Texas!
I love your Dogs Gone Wild quilt! So cute! Are you an RV snowbird or do you have a home in South Tx? When Hubby retires, we want to be sunbirds and get out of this Texas heat! lol
