It's been a blustery, cold spring in rural Cape Breton.
The thermostat reads 50*, but it feels more like 30. At least it's not raining anymore.
I've returned later than usual this year
and thought I might have missed the usual cold spring.

It was certainly raining when Lesley, The Cuddle Quilter,
drove us safely for our first annual meet up with Linda, the Scrapmaster, and
Sheila, of Sheila's Quilt World
at a delightful little quilt show sponsored by
and Sheila's home guild.
She was our personal tour guide!

On the homefront,
I've been getting a little sewing accomplished,
inbetween mowing the lawn,
which is more like a field right now,
which is more like a field right now,
and trying to get into sync with being back
after a long winter away.,
It might be cold, but it's peaceful here.
The ocean smells so good when I step out the door to greet each new day
and the birds are singing from sun up until sun down.

Happy to be reunited with my sewing machines,
I'm working on the Star Spangled BOM
by Lindsey at Fort Worth Fabric Studio.
Lindsey was kind enough to send me the directions for the last
two months early so I could kit them up and bring them back to finish.
My Star Spangled BOM has a Texas theme
made from the leftover fabric from another long ago project.
Completing the blocks and sewing them all together into a flimsy
will be my One Monthly Goal
for June.

How nice to have you back in province, quilting away! I was sorry to miss the Thistle show, but we were getting the queens into new hives and Mother Nature does not wait for quilt shows. So glad that Sheila won that big ribbon - her work is phenomenal. Your star blocks look great; can't wait to see the finished quilt!
You know I love your view! Your spangled stars are looking fine and ready to join together into a lovely piece. I see I have something waiting in my mailbox from you and I'm looking forward to receiving it in another few weeks :)

I love your star spangled stars. Wish I had started that one. Welcome home. We could use some of your cooler weather here today. It's expected to be 95+ actual temperature with heat index of close to 100. Hot hot. AND we have lots of humidity to go with it. In spite of that, my birds do sing each morning too.
Looks like a lovely trip with good friends...the best kind :) The view from in front of your house is breath taking, just beautiful. I love the fabrics you are using in your Star Spangled BOM quilt! Three of my favorite things...a BOM, red, white and blue and an asymmetrical layout :)

Peace is a rare commodity in the Washington DC metropolitan area though I am sure some of us know of little hidden pockets of calm between the chaos. Wish I could smell the ocean and see your face :-) For now I will settle for a chat.

Beautiful quilts and blocks ... and view! I bet it's warmed up a bit since you posted this - we're in day 2 of some unusually hot and humid weather and I can't say I'm very pleased - I just melt in the humidity, ughhhh. I was out and about, on and off of buses, walking here, walking there - I had a doctor's appointment in the next town and when I got back to my town, I was in the right area to finish up some To Do's. I was pretty wilted by the time I got everything done and sat down to wait for the bus :D Fortunately when I walked in my front door (after having been out for 4 hours) I was hit with a wave of cold air from the a/c. YES!!! I managed to rack up 3 miles of walking while I was out - with the heat I probably burned off the equivalent of 6 or 14 pounds. Maybe!! ;)
lovely post, imagine waking up to that view every morning. You don't have to imagine it, you live it. Those are some lovely quilts, must be lovely to spend time with quilty friends

WHAT a stunning shot and view Karen! I'd be stood there probably 20 minutes, soaking it all in, smells, sounds, sights, ahhh. IMHO there is nothing like water to soothe one's soul and being. Glad you were able to take in the quilt show with your friends, (wow, Sheila's work!) and yes, reuniting with beloved machines and sewing room (and kayak I'll bet) is more balm for the soul. Must ask you about the Fitbit cases... ;-)
Oh Karen with a view like that I don't know how you can tear yourself away, it's beautiful. Love the quilt show shots, I love local shows and all the real quilts which are achievable by the majority of quilters.
I need to come and visit you! That view is heavenly! Is there space for our camper??
