Happy Easter
(Battus philenor)
Good Friday WAS a good Friday.
This beauty was photographed at the Cibolo Nature Center
NW of San Antonio in the Hill Country.
It's perpetual motion made it difficult to photograph,
but managed to get a half-way decent photo of it from underneath.
Just gorgeous.
This is the only male we observed, but the females were darting
about everywhere along the trail at the open edge of the forest.
They were equally as difficult to photograph.
They preferred to dine on this verbena,
as did these little skippers,
but I was hoping to capture a good photo of one
sitting atop a bluebonnet,
for dessert, perhaps?
Guess what Pipevine Swallowtails lay their eggs on?
You guessed it, Pipevine. It is the caterpillar's sole food source.

nice you got out to enjoy a pretty day!
Yummy, have a lovely easter, yum yum, I'll be sick, yummy.
Best way to see the butterflies, and they're beautiful Karen.
What a great day you had photographing these beautiful butterflies and flowers. Nice you could be out and about. Hope you also have a Happy Easter. Nola
such a pretty day you had. I have not seen a butterfly yet but I'm sure they will arrive soon. Some of the birds that I had not seen all winter are slowly on their way back, saw a blue jay just yesterday and hadn't seen one all winter, the morning doves (turtle doves?) came back two weeks ago.
I loved your photos in this post, and the video was amazing. Thanks so much and Happy Easter!
Hi Karen...What a beauty, nice seeing the flowers too...pretty bare here at the moment just brown everywhere lol!!

I can't wait til our butterflies come back! Happy Easter! :0)
Gorgeous shots, Karen, making me think of Easter and spring, of which we here in Alberta have one but not the other!

A feast for the eyes and the senses. Thanks, Karen, Happy Easter!
Wow! beautiful butterfly images Karen, nicely supplemented by a floral background.
Butterflies are still absent from our very cold Spring.
neat video and pretty photos you took.
Happy Easter!
What beautiful pictures and a terrific video. Thanks for sharing. I'm amazed at the butterfly pictures, you must be a very patient person! I see by the map they are in my area, I'll have to look for them.
Oh, what great pictures. Thanks for sharing these. We had a beautiful day too after the storm passed but I didn't see any butterflies. My Easter was wonderful and I'm glad yours was too.
