2016 Word of the Year

If I were to choose a word for the year,
it would be "mindfulness".

I even whipped up a quick, quirky wallhanging flimsy.

Mindfulness is synonymous with
'living in the moment'.

Click on the picture to see that I just inked in the word.

Without getting into 'my story'
(don't we all have one?)
I will share that when I embraced mindfulness
several years ago,
my life became much happier,
I experienced less stress,
and my world opened up to serendipity.

Becoming mindful is a process,
much akin to breaking old habits to create new ones.

Being mindful is a powerful magic.

I've determined that it's time to revisit
the concept again,
as a gentle reminder to myself.

~

I was delighted with the response
I received on my last post.
Thanks so much!
It was fun to read everyone's thoughts on the subject
(and all the excuses).
:)

This is the perfect opportunity
to introduce you to Crafty Daughter's Etsy shop,
GardeniaDrive.

She has listed some very special cards for sale
that I thought you might be interested in,

Color Me Thankful Note Cards
the impetus behind that last post
about teaching our children the importance
of expressing their gratitude by writing thank you notes.
I was helping her with the write up,
and felt compelled to do a post about it, as well.

These delightful cards enable even the youngest child
the ability to take pride in being part of the process,
even if they are unable to write, yet.

Please share with anyone you know
who might be interested!
Shipping is free to US customers,
and international postage can be negotiated
just by asking!

Have a wonderful, funderful
longggg weekend!

XO,
karen

I get sucked into the fix everything mentality and it can be overwhelming...it takes a little time to rein it in...being mindful is a good idea.
Love the little blank notes.

"Mindfulness" seems to be a new movement. I have heard it mentioned before.
As a naturally introspective person I feel I already have some of those skills, although to be truthful I have never studied mindfulness.
I did recently discover a trick to help when I am feeling a bit irritated or displeased. I make myself smile. It works!

I love your word. We really do need to live in the moment. Because we can't change the past and really don't know what will happen the future. Your daughter's cards are adorable. We do need to thank people for any act of kindness. Now a days we can text, email, and telephone but a hand written note is still a very special way to say thank you.

That hippo would make the cutest quilt block! Cheers to mindfulness, a great reminder to cease the day, & to be mindful of others as well!

Um, i'm thinking seize the day may be a better practice, haha! Perhaps mindfulness comes after coffee ...

LOVE your word Karen!!! And I loved the link to go back and read the story on handwritten notes that I had missed - wow! I do enjoy writing notes and try to keep a collection at hand to send at a moment's notice. One of my personal initiatives for this year is to be more conscious (mindful!) of when a note would be helpful or a blessing in someone's life. Thanks for the reminder!!!

What a great word to choose! I think this is the first time I've heard it or at least, thought about it. We would all be better off if we "lived in the moment." Nola

Thats a great word to choose.... isn't it odd how we so quickly get sucked into things and out of healthy habits?

Living in the moment-it seems like it would be rather easy and yet it's so tough. Tough to let the past go and tough not to worry about the future. Thanks for a thoughtful post!

That's a great word! After your post the other day I decided that "write" would be my word of the year. Write in my journal and write notes to others. Thanks again for that sweet post!

It's very interesting to read everyone's One Word posts. I don't know how I could choose just one. I'm such a magpie. They all seem like such fine words to guide one's life... my stash devotion for this year has a large dose of mindfulness. I'll be joining you, in my own way, in this word!

Fabulous word and your little quiltlet to remind you of "mindfulness" is wonderful. Your daughter's cards are super fun and will help others to "write" those cards and letters. Thank you for sharing your insights and thoughts...

Mindfulness is a wonderful word and one we should all pay attention to but not always easy but I try . Love the cards your daughter has made .

That is a good word not just for the year but life. Your handmade cards are always so beautifully made. It's sad how we've gotten away from the little delights of snail mail. It brings such joy to find a treasure in the box amongst the annoying bills and junk.
