In My Humble Opinion

There was more than a wee bit of secret sewing happening at my house during the month of August, but today I can show you one finished project, as it has now been gifted.

(please click on picture to enlarge)

In anticipation of a weekend visit to Linda, The Scrapmaster aka The Fabric Pig, I whipped up this cute little banner for Linda's sewing room.

The paper pieced alphabet that I used is available in the Elm Street Quilts' Craftsy store. Just click right HERE to purchase yours!

The pig face is a free tutorial from Sew Fresh Quilts, which is generously offered HERE!  I have future plans for both patterns, and can't wait to get started!

Visiting Linda is such a delight.  Her family is always so welcoming and supportive, and Linda has so much to share and teach, which she does quite naturally.  I drive away with a lot more knowledge about fabric selection, thread, needles, FMQ than I ever arrive with.

Here is where Linda sits when she does her handwork.  Lots of natural light over her left shoulder.
The perfect spot!

I took the picture because I really like the pillow.
She has the most awesome pillows and quilts all through the house.
They are soft and wonderful and every one is an invitation
to sit and snuggle up.
Here is one on display by Lesley of The Cuddle Quilter,

gifted to Linda when we had our challenge swap
during the late spring, when the NSQBQ met up
 at the Westville Quilt Show.
(This year's challenge is a round robin,
thus the 'other' secret sewing.
We aren't going to show each other until the big reveal next spring.)

I was quite taken with this beautiful wallhanging at that show,
as a matter of fact, it stopped me dead in my tracks.
No way does the picture do it justice.

Imagine my delight when I discovered it was made by our very own Sheila!
Check out the beautiful detail!

They each have lots to teach me!

Now for my humble opinion:

Creating controversy is what some people do best, however...

.......just because someone makes a statement that you may not agree with, you must remember, it's just one person's opinion. It's not the law.  It's not a rule.  It's not everyone.  It's just one person.

Bottom line:  If you want to stipple, then stipple.

Amen to your bottom line! Life's short-do what makes you happy and what you want. Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos with us. I love that pillow, I've been sitting here staring at it, thinking about how that would look in a large quilt. It's fun seeing other creative people's homes-each one unique and welcoming in its own way. I love that quilt by Sheila-the quilting adds so much to the piece!

Love the piggie sign Karen and could not agree more with the bottom part of your post

Love the banner you made! Aren't you the smart one! Lovely house that Linda has, and I do enjoy seeing the little pillow take its place. Sheila's work is amazing! Thanks for sharing! BTW, I also enjoyed your stippling comment. I find a quilt "tells" me how to quilt it, and many have spoken stippling to me!

MHO matches yours.
LOVE your piggy, and the lines on your quilting are so perfect and precise...much like yourself :)

The pigsty wall hanging is adorable. I'm sure Linda loves it. And the wall hanging is beautiful. It makes me think of a fall day and leaves me feeling like I've actually been there to that tree. I love when a piece of art can invoke such a feeling.

Such a cute little piggy. I'll bet she loved it.

That pillow on the sofa is beautiful as is Sheila's piece.

The pig quilt made me laugh out loud! You have to be pretty good friends to know that someone will appreciate their studio being called a "sty" :)

The Great Stippling Controversy of 2016: this too shall pass. In the meantime, I've served up some pretty cute, snuggly quilts with the ruinous meander. Oh woe! Oh tragedy! Oh, brother.

I'm not sure who said it first, but I like the phrase, "Quilt it like you stole it!"

Lots of talent there from you all. I am the lucky owner of a beautiful postcard ShelIa sent that is like a miniature of the gorgeous hanging in the show.

Great post! Our time just flew! And you know that I adore my piggy banner. I will have to clean up The Sty and get a nice photo of it in situ. Good thing Mike is on board with everything quilty because as I look around, quilts are everywhere! You should see the livingroom today as I am getting ready for my trunk show next week. It was great that we got some sewing done this trip too. I pieced a backing for the baby quilt I worked on and it is basted and ready to go under the needle. Can you imagine if we lived close-by each other. What fun we would have...all the time! hugs

Great post! I just did a ton of stippling on my newest masterpiece. I don't do it often, but there is a time and a place.....

I second the stipple statement. :o) Darling pig sty. It's lovely to be surrounded by not only talented but giving crafters.

This little piggy is sew cute! Lovely read and beautiful landscape. I aspire to make beautiful landscapes and this one is very inspiring.

An all-over meander is a beautiful thing in my book. Apparently I have had my head buried in the quilts was was completely unaware that there has been a Great Stipple Controversy of 2016. ?? This sounds like an effort by the Quilty Police, to whom I have never given much thought. I am here in my quity home happily stitching straight line, SITD, echo and, yes, meandering and stippling if they want to come and tell me what I am doing wrong. I will invite them in for tea and cookies and then send them on their way and get back to just what I was doing ... ;) Pat

OMG, I've been seeing a lot of gibberish on the web about "Just STIPPLING" lately too! Not cool, if a person can even quilt anything on your own machine then KUDOS! Let's not start being stipple snobs. The landscape quilt is beautiful and the pig sty is precious !

I so love your humble opinion Karen, you talk so much sense. Sheila's wall hangings are beautiful, I just had to look in detail, they didn't disappoint. You sound like you had a great time with Linda, I loved her cushions and wall art. I especially liked her armchair sewing station, very practical.

I WISH I could stipple. I am in love with my walking foot and have no room for FMQ foot in my life. But all that loveliness - the beautiful pillow, the gorgeous threadwork and the cute pig...they are welcome in my house anytime. Have a fun weekend!
