So Deer

There is such a feeling of excitement when seeing an animal in the wild.  ANY animal.  Even a little chipmunk.

I always consider San Antonio to be on the northern fringes of S. Texas, and it was a cold, damp day even for San Antonio.  We'd taken a ride just to get out of the house for a little while.  While riding through a preserve on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, my daughter and I encountered a small group of deer nestled in among the trees.

Some were just as curious about us as we were about them.

And some were too busy eating whatever that is!

They stared and stared and stared at us.

They watched our every move with innocent curiousity.

This one was so curious, she came in for a closer look,

she'd take a few steps closer,

then I'd take a few steps closer,

then she stepped closer, still!
It was difficult to end our visit and continue on our journey through the wilderness area.

Take a look at these other interesting Camera Critters!

Karen: You certainly got some great shots of the White tailed Deer. I enjoy so much that they come into my yard in the city.

I wonder if they were eating a mushroom? It was totally big wasn't it.

I too love coming across any bird or mammal on my path through life. It brings me joy to see the world in motion.

"...even a chipmunk." We see chipmunks only rarely...if I saw one I would think that a grand wildlife day ;)

I get the same feeling of exciting, from the smallest little creature to the largest. Unexpected sightings are always a thrill. Love your photos of the deer. Such lovely animals.

You really got some wonderful photos! I like the one where his/her ear is cocked back, like he's listening for something. And I'm curious now as to what that is they're eating...:)

Great shots of the inquisitive does.

As for the "whatever" they are eating, it looks like some kind of aggregate that includes corn kernels, perhaps a deer supplement block that's already been licked and nibbled into an irregular shape. Something like this maybe? Then again, perhaps my imagination has just gone off the deep end.

What a friendly deer! The ones I see are usually running in the opposite direction because they saw me first!

Just one question, Where is the snow? ;) Thanks for visiting my world also.

One of the wonderful thins about South Texas is the temperate climate! It doesn't snow (usually).

My husband is a detail kind of person, so he likes close-ups, but I am a "whole picture" kind of person. I like things to be in context. Therefore, my favorite picture in this bunch is of the deer on the path encircled by all the trees. It is a sweet picture and makes me feel as if I just came upon her walking in the forest also!
